It all started in early eighties when the discotheques and nightclubs worldwide gave birth to electronic music. Popularly known as EDM (Electronic Dance Music), this genre of music is primarily created by disc jockeys in order to create a dance based environment. This was just the beginning of EDM. Some of the forms it took included freestyle, techno, trance, eurodance, breakbeat, house and dance-punk. Though these forms of Electronic Dance Music started gaining popularity in 1970′s, it was universally accepted only in 1990s and became one of the contemporary music styles in following years Electronic instrument and devices including synthesizers, drum machines and sequencers are generally used to create Electronic Dance music. It also mimics the distinctive resonance of the customary acoustic instrumentation.
In addition to traditional Electronic Dance Music genres like trance, breakbeat, house and techno which are largely intended for dancing, some genres of electronic dance music like IDM and trip hop are more allied with listening rather than body movements. One of the most popular forms of electronic music, Trance, is a blend of industrial music, house and of course techno. It’s name is indubitably linked to perceive the ability of music to induce an altered state of consciousness.
With the expansion of computers and composition technologies, and decline in the cost of music equipments, a number of imminent artists and disk jockeys have surfaced, showcasing their flair and taking electronic music to the next level. Also, with the arrival of hard disk recording system, it is now attainable for any computer user to become a musician, hence we see a rising trend of bedroom bands where often only single player is the band himself/herself
